The season for holiday party makeup is right around the corner! This is the time of year where shimmer and sparkle reign. That’s why we have put together a few different party looks that you can use, whether you are going out with friends, to an office holiday party, or a quiet get together with family.

  • Apply Champagne Silk Eye Glossto your entire eyelid and brow bone using the doe foot applicator. Blend gently with your finger or the applicator.

  • With the lid on, flip yourBronze24K Gold Dust over and tap the bottom, so some powder falls into the lid. Turn it right side up and open carefully. There should be some shimmer powder in the lid. Spritz your Deluxe Shader brush with Hydration Spray and dip it into the lid. Press it all over the lid and up into the crease. Blend away any harsh lines.

  • Finish with Espresso from Chocholicks or any warm neutral shade from lip fixation or gloss collection

Brushs

  • There are so many makeup brushes to choose from, it can become very overwhelming. However, choosing the right brush is like finding a soul mate, you didn’t know what you were missing until they came into your life and now you cannot imagine life without them.
  •  Today we are going to talk about my 5 favorite eye makeup brushes (as well as a couple of others) we’ll go over some of the tips and tricks that will hopefully empower you to take a chance and fall in love with some of your own favorite brushes.

  •  a rule of thumb. Synthetic hair brushes are meant to be used in the application of liquids and creams, while natural hair brushes are meant for powders.
  • Also, let me preface by saying that while many of the brushes I am talking about today are made from natural animal hair, no animals have been harmed or killed in the making of these brushes.

  1. The Deluxe Shader, this brush is fantastic. It’s a long, flat brush made of pony and ox hair, and is a pretty dense brush, yet still soft. It is fantastic for applying eye shadow to large areas of the eye. I use this brush daily to apply a base color to my entire eyelid and brow bone, followed by a medium color applied directly on my eye lid. When picking a brush to use in this manner, you want to make sure it is dense enough to apply a good amount of product but soft enough so that the color is not too intense.
  2. The Crease brush, it’s long and soft with a tapered end and it’s made of goat hair which makes it so very soft. I LOVE this brush for getting into the crease between my eyelid and brow bone, it seems to magically deposit the perfect amount of shadow, not too dark and not too light. I also LOVE this brush for blending. If you are looking for clean airbrushed eyes, this is the kind of brush you want! Be sure to stay with something that is soft: brushes that are too dense will deposit too much color.
  3. The denser Eye Contour brush is also perfect for getting into that area between the lid and brow bone. This brush is also fantastic for highlighting the brow bone and inner eye with colors like Bone and Oyster, I use it for this purpose daily!
  4. The Eye Shader brush is a smaller version of the Deluxe Shader, it’s short and dense but soft and made of pony hair. This brush is great for smaller eyelids, and depositing accent colors. I use this brush on the outer edge of my eyelid to deposit a “pop” of color, like purple or teal, when I want to brighten up a neutral shadow pallet. The size and shape of this brush make it a multi-purpose brush and a must-have in every beauty bag. Another great brush to use for depositing accent colors is the Mini-Dome brush, and as an added bonus, it’s made of both pony hair and synthetic hair so it’s great for cream or powder applications!
  5. The Eye Liner/Brow brush. This brush is made of a short, blunt, flat edge that is very firm. The bristles are synthetic which means it is perfect to use wet. You can use this brush to apply powder to your lash line or brows. The opposite end has a sponge tip that is perfect for smudging. My favorite way to use this brush is when I want to get creative with my eyeliner. I spritz the bristles with hydration spray (or water) and then gently press it into whichever eye shadow color I am choosing to use. I then gently press the brush into my lash line, spritz and pick up more shadow as needed. The “liner” will last all day and goes on flawlessly!
  6.  Another brush that can be used for this same technique is the Angle Definer brush, which is the same kind of brush at an angle rather than cut straight across. Or you can even use the Detail brush, which is also great for lip liner and smudging as well! All of these brushes contain synthetic fibers so they are perfect for wet applications

To Shimmer Or Not To Shimmer.........

  •  One of lifes biggest questions can be weather to shimmer or not to shimmer. The answer is that shimmer can be your best friend when used in moderation. Using shimmer is the perfect way to reflect light and blur away imperfections, but a little goes a long way, so apply in sheer layers. You can always add more!
  • Shimmer in a neutral shade on the inside of your eye can make you look awake and refreshed. A great shimmer duo that offers both a crease shade and a neutral color for your inner eye is Oyster/Supernova. Apply Supernova to your crease and outer third of the lid using the Crease brush and Oyster on your brow bone and inner lid using the Deluxe Shader brush.

Close your eye and take a look in the mirror. Instead of splitting your eye into three sections (lid, bone and crease) get creative! What do you want to hide and what do you want to play up?
  • Remember that light colors (and shimmer) give the illusion of protrusion where darker colors (and matte finish) give the illusion of recession. Using the example of my mother, she has fantastic eyebrows and a strong brow bone, yet her lid droops on the outer part of her eyes, which makes her self conscious. Using goBrownEye Steppes, because she has beautiful deep chocolate brown eyes, we applied the lightest shade on her brow bone and the very inner part of her eye.
  • Then we split her eye lid in half, applying Tan on the inner half of her eyelid and Licorice on the outer half. By using the Licorice on the outer half of her eyelid we diminished the look of droopiness because of the illusion given by darker colors. Licorice also contains some shimmer, which allows the natural light to reflect off and diminish the appearance of droopiness.
    1. To lift the eyes and look more awake, line the top lash line only. If you are going to line both your top and bottom lash lines be sure that your bottom lash line is thinner than the top .
    2. When applying eyeliner on your bottom lash line, apply it from the outside of your eye to just past the center of your pupil, this will allow your eyes to appear awake and open.
    3. Experiment with color! While you may be used to using basic black eyeliner, as we mature this can be unforgiving. Try using browns such as Dark Topaz and CitrineMystikol to replace harsher black eyeliners. Also, play with color! Amethyst and Malachite Mystikol’s can truly brighten up your eyes and bring sparkle to them.

Bronzer Blunders: 4 tips to get your glow on (correctly) this summer

If ever there was a dividing line between girls-in-the-know and girls-in-the-no-no, it would be drawn with bronzer. When it’s used correctly, bronzer gives us ladies an immediate allure of sun-kissed sensuality. When it’s used incorrectly, well…the word oompa-loompa comes to mind.

Here’s how to turn bronzer blunders into bronzer wonders in no time flat.

    • Follow the sun: Make sure to apply sun-kissed color where the sun would kiss you. Stick to the cheeks and the bridge of the nose, and avoid the jawline. Better still, follow the sun outside and bring a mirror with you. If you look “dirty” or “orange”, go back inside and tone things down.

    • Remember you have a neck: And you have a nice one! Your face should never be a different color than the rest of you. Don’t trust a compact mirror to tell you whether or not you’re ready to step out into the wide, wide world. Trust a full size mirror, or an honest friend.

    • Know when to shine: I love me some shimmer. Who doesn’t? But I recently saw a picture of myself rocking a golden goddess look during the après-midi, and you know what? Instead of shimmer, I saw shine. So unless you’re so fabulous you spend your days flitting from one red carpet to the next, stick to a matte look for the daytime, and shimmer for playtime.

    • Hot tips: Pressed powders are ideal for a matte, daytime-appropriate look. (Try to give a delicately gilded look to cheeks, eyes and lips. But don't stop there – mix it with a moisturizer for the décolleté or into styling product for your hair!

About this time of year, many of us begin to feel that we look dull. Brightening up the area around the eyes is the best way to look refreshed and vibrant in a snap.

    • Active Light concealer and highlighter is great for banishing dark under-eye circles and bringing light to the face. It has a light formula that feels fresh on the skin, and the built-in applicator makes it easy to use. The formula refracts light to create a soft focus effect. It provides sheer to medium coverage.

so if you need something super-emollient or for heavy-duty coverage, Circle\Delete is a better choice.

For the basics of applying concealer to hide under-eye circles, follow the tips here.
    1. A little goes a very long way. I am amazed at how little I have to use! If it is creasing, it was too much. Just pat at the concealer with your ring finger to smooth it out and use a little less next time. Experiment (it's only makeup!) till you find the right amount for you.
    2. If you have a few extra fine lines around the eyes, *sigh* start applying just a little bit down/away from your tear duct. Somehow those rascally little crinkles are worse right under your eye, and are best avoided altogether. You will get the same lightening/brightening effect with fewer opportunities for accentuating fine lines.
    3. The inner corner of the eye, on the side of the bridge of the nose is a GREAT place to add light. It wakes up your eyes and brightens your whole face.
    4. Remember the corners of the nose, around the nostrils. If you have any redness there this is the #1 trick for creating a flawless-looking complexion.
    5. Active Light is a great highlighter for the tops of cheekbones, down the center of the nose, top of the cuspid's bow of the lips (luscious!).

    Just For Me
    Multi-Purpose Spring 2011 Collection

Spring has arrived! The days are a little longer, but it is still below freezing most of the time. What can we do when it won't warm up? Create a little heat with makeup! Spring looks are usually demure, but here is a different take: a sultry, shimmering look that makes spring feel like sizzling summer:

    1. Start with Champagne Silk Eye Gloss on your whole lid, lashes to crease. Blend gently by patting with your ring finger. If you want more coverage, let it dry a bit and apply a second coat.
    2. Dot a tiny bit of Brown SilkEye Gloss into the crease, blending upward.
    3. Thickly line the upper lash line with a burnished gold liner such as Citrine Mystikol. The effect should be soft and smudgy. Line lower lash line as well, close to the lash line.
    4. Use the highlighter end of your Mystikol to add shimmer to the brow bone and the inner corner of the eye (blend with your finger).
    5. Warm the exterior of the face with So-Bronze 3, in the bottom step of WarmMySteppes. It doesn't matter if you are a "warm" or a "cool" shade. This is makeup, there are no rules! Dip a nice fluffy White Fan Brush into the bronzer and dust it around your hairline from above the temples to the jaw line, blending inwards. We are not contouring here, just creating a healthy-looking glow. Reload your brush as often as needed, but you should not be noticing too much color on the face! We want to look warm and golden, not "made up."
    6. Swipe your brush on a tissue to remove the bronzer, and then use it to sweep Whisper, the blush in the middle step of your MySteppe, over the apples of your cheeks. Smile to see the apple of the cheek and blend up and out.
    7. Staying with the White Fan Brush, tap some 24-Karat Gold Dust into the lid of the jar. Try Gold or Rose Gold . Dip your brush into the lid and sweep 24-Karat Gold Dust onto the tops of your cheek bones. Dip your brush into the lid again (tap out more if you need to) and dust over your closed eyelid. Start out with a little and then build the luster depending on your desire. The more shimmer you use, the more sizzling the look!
    8. Give everything a fresh dewy finish with a spritz or two of your favorite Hydration Spray.
    9. Lashes get an inky, wet look with a coat of PureLash Extender & Conditioner followed by several coats of Jet BlackPureLash Mascara on top lashes.
    10. Seal the deal with a bright, pretty, pop of pink on your lips. Forever PinkJust Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain adjusts to your personal chemistry to deliver the perfect shade of bright, fresh pink just for you.

Just because summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean you can’t keep that summer glow with you all year ‘round.

One of my favorite tricks for an instant glow is applying Warm BronzeDreamTint under my base. I apply a dot of the moisturizer on my forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks. I then blend the DreamTint using my Blending Brush before applying my PurePressed Powder. This gives me a bronze glow that is very natural and subtle.

I’ve also fallen in love all over again with So-Bronze3. Using the Dome Brush, I apply a little of the matte color to my forehead and the top of my cheekbones, as well as the bridge of my nose. To illuminate the look, use the shimmer crescent within So-Bronze3.

Spring is the perfect time to step away from the smokey eyes and play with softer, sweeter makeup.
Let's begin with blush so the rest of the makeup stays in balance and we don't end up looking clownish:

    1. Apply plenty of blush in a soft pink shade like Barely Rose. Smile to make the apples of the cheeks pop out. Try the Dome Brush with this to get plenty of color on the cheek, swirling it around the apple and blending to soften the edges. Avoid applying it too high on the cheeks, as this can make your eyes look red and tired.
    2. Use the White Fan Brush to apply Rose Gold24-Karat Gold Dust on the tops of cheeks: tap a bit of the 24-Karat into the lid of the jar, pinch the brush together between your fingers and dip the ends into the gold dust. Let go of the bristles, tap off excess back into the lid, and sweep it across the tops of your cheeks. If you like, repeat for a more shimmery look.
    3. Use your ring finger to pat Petal Lid Primer onto the entire eyelid area, right up to the brow bone. Use enough so you see a subtle glow, but not so much that it creases.
    4. Apply one of the brighter shades of Mystikol to line the eyes, top and bottom; try Aquamarineor Amethyst, or Citrine if you want something more neutral. This is a delicate look, not smokey, so use the pointy tip to get a nice thin line. Be sure to work it into the lash line. A trick for lining the top lashes is to lean your head back slightly and look down your nose into the mirror. Keep your eyes open as you work the color into your lash line. Your lashes will wiggle a bit when you're doing it right. To apply liner close to the bottom lashes, tilt your chin down, then look up at the mirror.
    5. For lush lashes, apply Lash Extender & Conditioner to top and bottom lashes, and then top with several coats of Longest Lash Mascara in your favorite shade.
    6. Pretty lips start with a layer of Lip Drink. Next, run your finger around the lid of the 24-KaratRose Gold to pick up a small amount, then tap it into your lips. This gives a glowing, soft finish; if you love gloss, top with Just Gloss.

Here is a great way to create a gorgeous look around that perfect smoky eye.

    Nice & Natural
This fresh, pretty look is perfect for weekends, heading to class, or running errands, especially holiday shopping. Just three steps gets you out the door in a jiffy and lasts all day:
      1. Apply a light-to-medium shade of eye shadow from lashes to crease, or all the way up to the brow, as you prefer. Try the large base shade from your Eye Steppes, or the light or medium shade from your favorite PurePressed Eye Shadow Triple, one of the lighter shades from your PurePressed Eye Shadow Kit or an Eye Gloss
      2. Apply your favorite Mystikol to the top lash line. Trace the line from the outer corner in, so the line is slightly thicker at the outside. I like to draw slightly on the side of the applicator so the line is a bit softer and thicker.
      3. Apply Lash Extender & Conditioner, and just a bit of Longest Lash Mascara to the top lashes. Done!

      Perfectly Polished
Apply the medium shade from your favorite eye shadow triple to the lid with theDeluxe Shader Brush.
        1. Use the Crease Brush to apply the darkest shade to your crease
        2. Apply the lightest shade to your brow bone.
        3. Line the outer two-thirds of the top and bottom lash lines with your favorite shade of Mystikol. If you want to tight line for a crisper look, use the very point of the Mystikol applicator.
        4. Apply PureLash Extender & Conditioner and two coats of Longest Lash Mascara.

        Wide Awake
            1. Start with the lightest shade from lashes to brow.
            2. Use the Chisel Shader Brush to apply the medium shade to the crease. Instead of applying in a half moon, blend up and out at the outer corner.
            3. Apply the darkest shade to the outer third of the lid, blending up and out. Use a Flocked Sponge to swipe from the outer corner of the eye to the outer edge of the eye brow.
            4. Line the upper lash line with your Mystikol from the outer corner in, thicker to thinner, ending about three quarters of the way in. The liner should end just a hair before the outer corner and turn up ever so slightly.
            5. Line the bottom lash line from the outside in, ending about halfway in. Connect the bottom line to the top one at the outer corner.
            6. Apply lash conditioner and mascara, and you're done!

          2. Apply Grape (the purple shade in the bottom Steppe) to the outer fourth of the eye, from lashes up over the crease. Use the Chisel Shader for intense color, the Crease Brush for a more subtle wash.
          3. Finally, use the Small Fluff Brush to press Sepia into the lower lash line. Mist the brush first if you want more intensity.

Now here are your eye makeup tips for enhancing your natural beauty.

            Your natural look:

            • Start with Oyster, the base shade from your goBlue Eye Steppes. Use the Oval Blender Brush to sweep it over the entire lid, right up to the brow bone.
            • Next, apply Taupe to the crease with the Chisel Shader Brush.
            • Clean off the Chisel Shader and use it to press Smoke into the outer fourth of the eye, from the lash line into the crease.
            • Blend everything to an edgeless finish with the Oval Blender.
            • Use Rosy to line under the lower lash line with the Mini Dome Brush.

            Finished Natural Look

            makeup with more drama:

            • Start by applying Oyster to the inner third of the lid and the brow bone. The Deluxe Shader works well for this.
            • Use the Chisel Shader to sweep Taupe onto the outer third of the eye from the lash line all the way to the brow bone.
            • Go right over that with Smoke from the lash line to the crease. Really press it in there if you want some nice intensity. Keep layering until you like it.
            • Next, clean off your brush well and press Rosy into the center of the lid, from the lash line to the crease.
            • Use the Mini Dome to apply Swiss Chocolate (yum!) to the outer three-quarters of the lower lash line.
            • Blend everything well with the Oval Blender, and be sure to give it a good mist with Hydration Spray. This is a secret to keeping intense eye makeup from looking overdone.

            Finished Playtime Look

One final tip: if you don't have an array of brushes (and really, you should!) the Chisel Shader is a work horse that can perform every task in these looks, depending how you hold it.
